turkey weekend in burley

Technically it is Scott's Thanksgiving, but since they decided to have it in Burley we get to eat with my family too. 2 dinners= lots of good food. Barbara always does her dinner on Friday afternoon so all the in-laws can eat on Thanksgiving with their family's. How nice. I have the best Mother-in-law ever...

we started off the weekend by getting up early for the mini-cassia turkey trot!!!
i was so tired and not feeling the best, but it was my 1st race outside of HS track.
thanks to Yvonne who found it & got us all excited & talked into running it.
it was only a 5K & 25 degrees with the wind!! Sorry Dave I didn't get a pix of you.
i think we should make it a tradition!!

Dinner was at Mimi's house with Us, Korbi & her family, Dawn & Bruse Family, Al & Debbie Family, Tyson, Kalen and MIMI!! Britni & her family joined for dessert. Most of the time was asking everyone how life has been and catching up. Reading the Ad's for Black Friday and keeping the kids under control with the cousins. Shaydon and Beck played pretty good together. Thanks MIMI for a wonderful dinner. See you in Boise for Christmas!!!
($79.00)
I didn't get up early for the 1st time since I started going shopping on Black Friday!! There wasn't much I wanted in the ad's so I just decided to say home. I went to Wal-mart at 9:00 and they had one of the two things I wanted. A FLIP video. The next stop was A child's world (A child's boutique). Everything was 25% and I got a pair of new shoes for Shaydon. Blue camo... Soo cute!

They boys have on their new beanies from Uncle Todd. They say Ida-Gold Farms

Standing Up!!!

Shaydon has been taking steps here and there for quit some time. But recently he has advanced to walking. Crawling is still the fastest way to get around, but he stands up on his own and walks across the room especially with mom or dad cheering him on!! We love you Shaydon and can't believe you hit another mile stone.

Is climbing next? I already caught him balancing one foot on his push walker with one foot on the baby gate trying to escape. Crazy little boy!!

Friday Night Lights

Eagle High School vs. Lewiston High School
Both were undefeated teams until tonight
(I couldn't get a good pix of Scott, he was so focused on the game
& embarrassed of me taking pix at a football game.)

Unfortunately Lewiston lost, but it was still fun to see a HS game

  • We left for the game early so that we could eat at Doug's Burger Den in Eagle they make a pretty good burger.
  • It took us a little while to find EH because we didn't have directions, but good thing the LDS church was open and we asked for help.
  • Scott was re-living his HS games and raving about their field turf
  • I was just trying to keep warm with Shaydon

Wonka Candy

These are my new Secret weapon for Shaydon. I have given them to him a few times now and he loves them. He got them trick-or-treating and of course I only give him a few at a time. So today we went to the Bank to make a deposit and all the girls just love him there. So they gave him the traditional sucker and we were on our way. Well after the sucker stick broke and Shaydon got his fingers sticky he didn't want anything to do with the sucker. He just kept opening and closing his hands thinking the stickiness would go away. So I got out the nerds and all was well.

In honor of Veteran's Day

SACK LUNCHES

The Sack Lunches I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. "I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap," I thought. Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. "Where are you headed?" I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. " Chicago - to Great Lakes Base. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Iraq "

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached Chicago , and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time. As I reached for my wallet, I overheard soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. "No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to Chicago ." His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. "Take a lunch to all those soldiers." She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. "My son was a soldier in Iraq ; it's almost like you are doing it for him."

Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, "Which do you like best - beef or chicken?" "Chicken," I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. "This is your thanks." After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. "I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this." He handed me twenty-five dollars.

Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand, an said, "I want to shake your hand." Quickly unfastening my seat belt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, "I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot." I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm. When we landed in Chicago I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. "It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You."

Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little... A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check Made payable to "The United States of America " for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it."

Cool Weekend

Friday

With the time change we don't have our schedule on track yet. So today we tried no nap in the morning and tried to make it to 1:00pm for a nap. We started lunch at 12:15. We didn't quite make it to 12:25. I went to get more food and came back to this. He must of been really tired!!! Sorry little guy.

Saturday

With the cold weather I decided to make a FRESH homemade apple pie (with Costco premiem ice cream). I still have apples left over from the church orchard! I pealed an apple for Shaydon to eat and then Scott comes in from the other room & said "why did you peel an apple for Roxy? I said I didn't I peeled one for Shaydon. I guess Shaydon wanted to share, or Roxy just helped herself" We went on an afternoon family run so we could justify the whole pie!!

Me and Shaydon waiting for dad to get his hair cut on Saturday night. I guess they could see Shaydon through the window and thought he was in there by himself, they couldn't see me because I was dressed in all black. I gave in and let Shaydon drive (pretend), and you can't drive with out snacks right?!!
I also got a shelf hung that I have been wanting to get hung like forever, Thanks Honey!!!
Sunday

Since it was such a cool weekend we ended it with homemade chicken noodle soup and fresh Rosemary bread for dinner. Shaydon love it too!!! (What doesn't he love to eat)
